“I was driving at highway speed on the interstate without a load in the back of my truck. I went over a slight bump in the road and went to apply the breaks. Upon applying the breaks I had no response from them. The leaf springs broke; cutting my brake-line. I subsequently had the leaf springs replaced and the brake-line repaired at a cost to me of approximaetly $1300.”

NHTSA complaint #10744680, filed 2015-07, 85,000 miles

“I was driving down the road heard a loud snap. Truck skipped sideways like I hit a pothole. Found a broken driver side leaf spring. I reported it Toyota they said they didn't know how to fix it. So I went out and had 2 new springs put on for safety. I was then told they would pay me for the repair. Now because they don't kno the remedy to repair this. They won't do anything for me.”

NHTSA complaint #10690692, filed 2015-02, 128,772 miles

“I own a 2008 Tacoma double cab, 4x4. Strange noise was coming from the rear suspension after driving over frost heaves and pot holes. The driver side leaf spring had broke, and was rubbing hard on the brake line. I do not tow, off road, or carry heavy loads. Online search found this is a common problem with tacomas. Happy (or lucky) the brakes didn't fail, and disappointed in the inferior quality.”

NHTSA complaint #10578023, filed 2014-04, 48,900 miles

“Frame limited recall that expired march 2016 I did not receive notification and Toyota refuses repair. My family drives this vehicle and I feel it is not safe due to recall. There are visible signs of corrosion. Recall is recall. Visible corrosion is abundant.”

NHTSA complaint #10938671, filed 2016-12, 40,000 miles

“I have 3 active recalls on this vehicle and Toyota seems unable to supply the parts to fix it. The recalls are for drive and front passenger seat belt assemblies , rear leaf spring and corrosion-resistant compound application to the vehicle frame . For the seat belt problem, I have made appointments with 2 different Toyota dealers within the last year, have driven 60 miles each way to have it done and have been told when I got there that the parts were on national backorder . …”
