“Recall -engine and engine cooling I have a 07 Jetta 2.0l. 2 months ago I noticed a gas smell when I took my oil cap off I noticed there was a lot of steam/smoke & I could tell that's where the smell was coming from. There was nothing visible other than the steam/gas vapor. The coolant level never moves. I was only getting 15 miles to the gallon because it was leaking into my engine. On 7/13/19 the engine seized (locked) up while I was driving it. I was driving my wife to work with our 5 year old son. …”
NHTSA complaint #11231739, filed 2019-07, 185,000 miles“No precipitating events. While driving, engine cuts out followed immediately by battery light coming on, have 30 seconds-60 seconds to get off the road to avoid collision. Car does not restart. Has happened 4x total so far, twice while driving 60mph on highway. Dealership has each time replaced fried fuse to fuel pump relay. After the 3rd time they replaced the module that controls the central electrical system (I was told this module had been upgraded 9x by vw since my 07 vehicle). …”
NHTSA complaint #10301783, filed 2010-01, 28,608 miles“I was driving on a freeway when large pieces of tire starting flying in the road from a semi-truck. Several vehicles were attempting to avoid being struck, when a large piece flew up and hit under my car. The outcome was a hole in my gas tank which then proceeded to leak fuel onto the highway. I had to pull over due to the damage. I understand this is considered active damage and should not have occurred due to safety standards that should be in place. I was thankful there were no sparks in the immediate vicinity or I would not be here now.”
NHTSA complaint #10507138, filed 2013-04, 112,000 miles“Strong fuel smell coming in from AC vents when car at a stop. Seen this car model was previously recalled for fuel smell in past. When driving off smell seems to go away since air seems to be flowing it out of engine bay.”
NHTSA complaint #11329847, filed 2020-06, 174,750 miles“2007 Jetta 2.5l wolfsburg edition (5sp manual) with 9,500 miles abruptly loses power when revved to 3000 RPM followed by a solid yellow cel. Walk-in at dealer service, in and out 1 hour, they said diagnostic shows knock sensor was at fault and cleaned and replaced with original knock sensor. 200 miles later, same issue - no throttle response at 3000 RPM, followed by solid yellow cel. Dealer says ok to drive on, come in next apt. 5 days later. Car in and out same day, they cleaned both knock sensors and replaced with originals again. …”
