“We were driving our 2006 Dodge Durango for about 5 minutes when all of a sudden the dash board lights started flashing. My husband was able to veer off the road on a side street and coast down into a parking lot. By this point the car was completely unresponsive. Smoke started to come out of the vehicle vents on the dashboard. We thought maybe a part broke at first. My husband opened the hood and there was no visible fires and not a lot of smoke. Smoke started coming more and more quickly out of the vents. We got our 3 children out of the car. By this point smoke was billowing out. …”
NHTSA complaint #10470423, filed 2012-08, 73,000 miles“Just left my home not driving more than 30 MPH when the engine light came on and I lost complete power. Was towed to the dealer where I purchased it and they did a PCM reflash with an instrument panel software update they also replaced the cluster. Now 2 and half months later, I haved moved out of state and once again just leaving my house not going above 30 MPH and the same thing happens again. Engine light comes on and I lose power, I was barely able to turn the wheel enough to get the vehicle on the side of the road. …”
NHTSA complaint #10203490, filed 2007-09, 14,649 miles“The vehicle operated for 60 miles on the highway prior to the collision. Road conditions were snow packed, and the ambient temperature was -1 degree fahrenheit. The vehicle was preparing to stop at an intersection. The driver was in the act of braking and slowed to about 1-2 MPH. Suddenly, the vehicle began accelerating without control into the intersection. The driver slammed on the brakes while the wheels spunout on the road. Another vehicle collided with the Dodge Durango at about 45 MPH damaging the left side and injuring the left rear passenger and the right rear passenger. …”
NHTSA complaint #10662583, filed 2014-12, 103,340 miles“1 - cruise control over shoots set speed 2 - cruise control over shoots set speed by 10 to 15 MPH on down hill , causes you to lose control of vehicle 3 - dealer has no solution to problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10168608, filed 2006-09, 300 miles“Upon turning into parking lot of local store, car shut down and system locked up. No power steering and no engine light came on. Was able to steer car to parking space, stop and restart vehicle. This is the second occurrence in 2 weeks. Same scenario, going slow in parking lot and vehicle shuts down. Another problem has come up now when after I start the vehicle in the morning, it surges from 1000 RPM to 2000 back and forth for about 10-15 seconds. My questions for the Durango makers is when will their be a total recall on these SUV's?”
