“Good afternoon, I am writing today with a serious safety issue on our 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. Our van has rear power slider doors and locks; recently the driver's side rear door has stopped sliding and will not unlock at all, either with the key or manually. Apparently this is a well-known issue; the dealer has stated that they will take a look at a vehicle for repair but we will have to pay the $100 diagnostic fee and approximately $1100-1300 to have the door repaired. This is a common factory defect that is also a severe safety hazard. …”

NHTSA complaint #11320343, filed 2020-04, 88,700 miles

“Two days ago, the driver side rear sliding door failed to unlock or open, either with the key fob or various buttons/handles. The passenger side door lock made a buzzing noise when it locked. Today, the passenger side sliding door stopped working. I took it to my mechanic. He said both locking mechanism motors were burned out at a cost to replace of $1900. The first door stopped working without warning, the second one made a buzzing sound for a day or two when locking or unlocking. There was no impact or rough road driving involved.”

NHTSA complaint #11197191, filed 2019-04, 56,000 miles

“Sliding door locks jammed and not working...stuck. Can't open the door manually either. This is dangerous because can't get kids out from the back especially during emergency situation. Dodge should recall all sliding door actuator or whatever is causing this stuck lock on sliding doors to open.”

The dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.”
