“This 2005 Ford Escape(and others according to the internet) completely shut off while I was driving. I was merging onto a highway going 60 MPH and it just shut off. Luckily I was able to pull over and 2 cars narrowly missed me. It just completely killed w/o any notice which is an extremely dangerous condition because I, or someone else, could've easily have been hurt.”

NHTSA complaint #11181198, filed 2019-02, 115,000 miles

“I have a 2005 Escape I bought for my 19year old daughter. The car keeps stalling out putting her at risk driving to and from work. We changed the gas filter and make sure the fluids are checked on a regular basis but it doesn't seem to have helped. The car keeps stalling out. She will be driving and it just cuts off. Doesn't matter what road she's on, city or highway it has done the same thing repeatedly.”

NHTSA complaint #11374080, filed 2020-11, 118,000 miles

“Bought my 05 xlt Escape last may 2015 and all of a sudden it started to shudder stall while idling and just completely die when I was driving on the highway! Got the codes read and it said I had a misfire on cylinder 2, so I put new coils and spark plugs in it but it's still not working! Still doing a misfire and it's running bad when it decides to crank up! Now it's not even drivable.”
