“My Escape keeps making a horrible rubbing/humming sound when turning right only, my rear passenger door does not lock and my alarm is constantly going off, and finally my frame on the rear passenger side is rusting and literally crumbling apart. My passenger air bag light does not function properly either. I just purchased this vehicle in may of this year from a car dealership.”

NHTSA complaint #11350839, filed 2020-08, 220,000 miles

“Purchased vehicle in april 2017 2 months later heard a banging noise from rear passenger side upon further investigation discovered the wheel well rusted out and the shock had came through. I continued driving it because I couldn't afford to fix it and it was my only car now there is no wheel well left and had to remove the shock.”

NHTSA complaint #11073001, filed 2018-02, 100,000 miles

“My Ford Escape has handled poorly for the past several weeks; a few days ago my daughter (following me in her own car) told me that the right front tire looked crooked. I took it to my mechanic this morning who told (and showed) me that the subframe was completely rusted out and that the car was not safe to drive. He seemed surprised to learn that I had not received a recall notice for this problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11364530, filed 2020-10, 150,000 miles

“Hear a loud bang while driving. I found extensive corrosion on the rear passenger wheel well. I checked the other wheel wells and the other three are fine, no issues. This car is a little older, but there should not be an issue like this. This is a garage kept vehicle and is not out in the elements all the time.”

NHTSA complaint #11073869, filed 2018-02, 129,000 miles

“The frame of the vehicle has rusted and the suspension broke free while it was being driven. Ford has recalled up the model year of 2004 because of frame rust through in the northern states . In speaking with the repair shop he said he has seen a number of these problems. I called Ford customer service and was told my car has no known issues.”
