“Rear backup camera is faulty on my 2014 Ford Explorer. It works intermittently or not at all. Sometimes the image on my display is flipped, meaning if I should see grass on the right side of my vehicle while backing up, the image is displaying grass on the left side. There is a recall for newer models of Ford Explorers related to the backup camera, but I believe there is an issue with older models as well.”

NHTSA complaint #11524775, filed 2023-06, 145,215 miles

“Every time we drive our 2014 Ford Explorer and turn on the air conditioner or heater we smell a rotten egg type of odor and it makes my wife and child all nauseated and gives us headaches sometimes. Many people have mentioned it to us as well when they are driving with us. It happens when we are parked, driving on the highway and just a city street.”

NHTSA complaint #11172332, filed 2019-01, 54,000 miles

“When suddenly accelerating to speed over 65 MPH , exhaust gas/fumes enter the main cabin, and linger for sometime, until I open all windows to dissipate the fumes. This issue always occur during sudden acceleration. I have taken vehicle to dealer several times and they installed external seals but issue continues, even after the fixes.”

NHTSA complaint #11219496, filed 2019-06, 96,000 miles

“The smell of exhaust was overwhelming and finally a fix was generated. The fix is worse than the original problem. Now there is an extremely strong smell of gasoline that floods the cabin of the vehicle. This occurs when in idle, when driving, when other cars are around or if I am the only car in the lot. Often I notice when the heating system is on.”

NHTSA complaint #11081417, filed 2018-03, 65,000 miles

“While stopped with air conditioning on the cabin of the vehicle fills with exhaust fumes. This makes my family and me sick, feeling nauseous with headaches. As a single mother I use my vehicle not only to get my family around but also as my livelihood. I am a lyft driver and this negatively affects my ratings from my customers who can smell the fumes.”
