“My Explorer has an intermittent airbag light that comes on and goes off. I've taken it into the dealer and they never find anything wrong; but the issue persists. I'm concerned an airbag may inflate incorrectly or not at all in an emergency.”
NHTSA complaint #11035878, filed 2017-10, 15,000 miles“The wiring harness to the airbag system became detached due to the placement of the wires and with the driver seat and passenger seat automatically adjusting, it can cause the wires to come out of place. The entire wiring system that connects to the seatbelts and impacts the airbag system had to be replaced. The airbag light was lit up on my dash & I was told none of the airbags worked in my vehicle if this light was on. The repair had to be done as a safety measure to ensure the air bags would work and function properly. …”
NHTSA complaint #11404670, filed 2021-03, 35,000 miles“Takatat recall?? I got in my car 1 morning to go to work and I couldn't get the male part of drivers seatbelt into the female part of seatbelt. My divers airbag seatbelt light has been on for 2 months. I cannot buckle drivers seatbelt into the female part of the seatbelt so when I am by myself I buckle driver seatbelt into passenger seatbelt. I called marshall Ford in o'fallon missouri they told my I needed to pay $150.00 for them to put my car on the machine for them to figure out what sensor is bad. I cannot afford to pay $150.00 much less pay for the repairs. …”
NHTSA complaint #11219726, filed 2019-06, 100,000 miles“We were driving down a rural road beginning to slow down, when the car did not slow down, it.went at fullspeed while hitting the brakes. Then hitting a tree head on, causing a fatality. I did not.want the car destroyed, because I wanted a full investigation performed on the cause and the tps . I only received a blackbox info with limited info showing vehicle speed at crash. The only thing slowing vehicle was a ditch and the tree. Also driver side belt came unattatched as well as middle passenger. Only driver air bag and one.passenger airbag deployed.”
NHTSA complaint #10970688, filed 2017-04, 45,000 miles“Our 2014 Ford Explorer sport has suddenly lost its power steering making it very difficult to drive and has a tendency to jerk the wheel left and right when driving. This I'm told is not under warranty and will cost approximately $1800 to fix. I believe the three years prior to mine had the same problem and were recalled. The Explorer has not been in any accidents and has 73k miles. The airbag light also came on when the steering issue started however the Ford service department said that it was unrelated and that would be another expense after the steering was repaired.”
