Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Awful banging sound while driving, inspected truck, found rear bumper hanging half off. Rear portion of both frame rails had rotten off. Rear spring shackles rotten and not attached. I pulled the bumper off with my bare hands! If it had fallen off while I was driving it could have killed someone. This is not an old beat up truck, as a matter of fact it only has 17,000 mile on it. It still looks brand new. The Ford Ranger xlt 4x4 extended cab was bought new in 2006 for $20,000, now its useless, can not even fix the spring shackles, nothing to attach them to.”

NHTSA complaint #10683098, filed 2015-02, 17,000 miles

“I bought my truck brand new last month on april 18th I have just over 1000 miles on it and within the first 400 miles I had problems with starting the truck, when I turn the key most of the time it starts, but occasionally if I let go of the key about the time it normally starts the engine dies and once when I attempted to start it again I heard the starter make the noise like it does if you turn the key and the engine is already running. Also my transmission will occasionally jerk when it shifts gears. …”

NHTSA complaint #10157908, filed 2006-05, 300 miles

“Automatic transmission doesn't maintain enough pressure to prevent the vehicle from rolling forward or backwards. Extreme pressure to the gas is need to rebuild the pressure in the transmission to stop the rolling action.”

NHTSA complaint #10159138, filed 2006-06, 100 miles
