“Driver entered car in grocery store parking lot. Car was started and put into drive. Car then spontaneously accellerated rapidly into the concrete base of a light pole. Cause unknown. Driver suspects problem with computer that controls the accellerator. Car towed to dealer 1 who found nothing. I called Honda and they are sending me to another dealer.”
NHTSA complaint #11276959, filed 2019-10, 13,500 miles“I was driving about 45 on a side road and I heard a pop and things start rolling down the roof and off the back of the car. I found out that the sunroof exploded and the air was pulling the sunroof apart. Luckily I had the visor closed, so the glass didn't fall into the car.”
NHTSA complaint #10980198, filed 2017-04, 600 miles“I need to replace my Honda Odyssey braunability wheelchair accessible entervan. Because it was destroyed in the february 7th chain accident at the mario cuomo /tappan zee bridge in westchester, new york. Your recall for the second seadt row prevents Honda dealers to sell me a new vehicle, even if a wheelchair accessible van cannot possibly use a second row seat,. Accordingly I kindly ask you to issue a waiver that I can submit to any Honda dealer. Deadline for submitting my order for converion is feb 28 and chassis has to arrive a braunability no later than march 16, 2018.”
NHTSA complaint #11074201, filed 2018-02, 39,000 miles“Engine failure, requiring all new ignition coils and spark plugs (62,000 miles). Car ran well for 3 weeks, and resumed having acceleration issues, engine/transmission judder and check engine light returned. Brought back to mechanic and replaced a failed ignition coil. Was directed by the mechanic to bring to a dealer if the issue continues as it's likely due to a cylinder issue which is causing ignition coils to fail. Brought to dealer with engine and transmission issues. Diagnosed as bad transmission fluid requiring flush and fill 3 times: $850. …”
NHTSA complaint #11536945, filed 2023-08“The car was parked and turned off on a hill, approximately 2-4deg grade. The automated sliding door was opened and the close door function was activated. With the door about halfway closed, a snapping sound could be heard and the door slammed shut. The door slammed with such force that the entire car shook violently. It was clear afterwards that the snapping sound was a cable that was part of the automated door open/close function. Fortunately, no one was in the doorway or near the door at the time. Had someone been in the doorway when the cable snapped serious injury seems likely. …”
