“I was at a gas station and positioning my vehicle for fueling. The transmission shift lever got stuck and I couldn't move it to anywhere but neutral. During this time the ESC and downhill brake control lights were on. Then I switched off the engine and restarted it, the problem seem to go off. Now it recurs very often at least 5 times a day even at low speeds ~25 MPH on a dry road.”
NHTSA complaint #10555350, filed 2013-12, 47,000 miles“I heard a clunk upon turning right, exiting a parking lot. The rear end of the car started to sway. Fearing a blown tire, I pulled off the road, only to find the left rear wheel pitched at a rather unhealthy angle. After towing the car to my local repair shop it was discovered that the rear cross member was rusted out. Apparently this is a fairly common occurrence in certain Hyundai models. Although out of warranty, it seems like Hyundai should be willing to address this issue of rust and stand by their vehicles.”
NHTSA complaint #11259109, filed 2019-09, 136,000 miles“Since I got this vehicle the gear shift gets stuck. I have gone to the dealership to get the problem fixed. The problem has been the backlight switch. It is a big hassle trying to get this problem fixed with the dealership. The backlight switch last two to three years. I got the recall letter about the backlight switch in 2012, but why my VIN number is not listed? The dealership has been charging me every single time I have been there for this constant problem. I almost got kill by the train because of this backlight switch problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #11319863, filed 2020-03, 87,150 miles“My problem with this Tucson is in regards of sudden unintended acceleration . It sporadically, on an almost daily basis we experience sua followed by immediately loses power and acceleration every time it's driven. Ex: driving on the freeway doing 70mph, it will lunge and the tachometer will race and suddenly loses power down to 35mph. Then has a lag accelerating afterwards. This is consistent through out the day since I commute a lot. Other issues, when engine on idle it feels like it's about to stall. …”
NHTSA complaint #10597798, filed 2014-06, 30,000 miles“I have had my Hyundai Tucson for about 5 months, about two months after owning the car the car made a loud clunk and lurched forward, like I got hit from behind or like I hit an animal. I pulled over to see if I did but nothing was there. This happened about three times before I took it to the dealer. They checked it and said everything checked out fine. They reset the transmission, they told me the transmission learns your patterns and something might have gotten confused. …”
