“Summon feature has never worked properly and has always tried to crash itself into cars next to it or drive the wrong way down the parking lot with no one inside. I have several videos of the car trying to crash itself after driving less than 4ft out of a parking spot at Walmart. Couldn't even make it 100ft to the shopping cart deposit. You cant summon and record at the same time with your phone so when it failed I switched to record. …”
NHTSA complaint #11521648, filed 2023-05“The issue I encountered was with Tesla's Smart Summon Feature. While using the feature, the car crossed the parking line and crashed directly into a car parked beside it. Happening so quickly I could not react in time. All of the cameras and sensors were in working order and it seems to have been a software related issue. The safety of anyone around the vehicle could have been at risk thankfully no one was hurt. The vehicle has since been inspected by insurance and damages to both cars were repaired. There were no warnings of any kind prior to the collision. …”
NHTSA complaint #11634571, filed 2025-01“Around 02/10/2026, all of ADAS functions of my 2022 Tesla Model Y has suddenly stopped working, and the rearview was just black. On 02/27/2026, Tesla service diagnosed the car and tole me that the car computer should be replaced and its total repair cost would be about $3,200. My car's mileage was 51,000 at the onset of the problem, so just passed the standard 50K warranty. My car has total loss of rearview camera (FMVSS 111 violation) and loss of Active Safety Systems (AEB/FCW), but Tesla refused to repair a federally mandated safety defect if I don't pay the full repair cost.”
NHTSA complaint #11720990, filed 2026-02“Car did not stop after I parked and continued to go forward and hit another parked a car Even with my foot on the break. No warning light of any sor. This incident happened at 5:35 PM Pacific time on Monday, September 12. I made an appointment with the service department and it took the car there on September 23, 2022, . They only asked me about the time this happened and they said you’re going to send it to engineers and will get back to you. They did even Care to look at the car or inspect it. Since then, no one ever contacted me. …”
NHTSA complaint #11496513, filed 2022-12“In accelerating of itself, both my own life and that of a potential bystander were in danger. I had no time to react to the sudden acceleration. This has never happened to me in over fifty years of driving and it was very obviously the result of a car malfunction. In addition, the automatic emergency braking function failed. There were no previous messages, symptoms, or signs. The car has been at the shop for three months. The dealer has failed to give us any feedback as to why the accident happened. All they have said is that they don't have the parts that they need to change. …”
