“I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla. It accelerated while I was waiting for the traffic light to turn red to green. The RPM shot up so I put in neutral and then the RPM rapidly shot up to the red mark so the turn off the engine and parked it at my work since evening of 11/05/09.”

NHTSA complaint #10291523, filed 2009-11, 16,273 miles

“01/02/2014 at 7:15am: vehicle idled normally for approx 15 minutes while I cleared snow from driveway. I entered vehicle, put my foot on the brake and shifted into reverse. Accelerator suddenly went to full throttle. I managed to shift back into park and the engine RPM increased to red-line level. I shut off the ignition and the engine stopped. I re-started the vehicle a minute later and everything seemed to be fine. I checked the floor mat which was not close to the accelerator pedal. At least 4 away. My foot never depressed the pedal. …”

NHTSA complaint #10558153, filed 2014-01, 58,150 miles

“I was driving back home and slowed down with the intention of stopping at a traffic intersection. My brakes did not engage at the normal level of pressure that I use, and I had to press it all the way down. When the brake was slammed all the way down the brakes did engage, but the engine started revving up and the RPM meter was to its maximum. I did not take my foot off the brakes because I knew if I did, the car would have travelled at 120mph. I immediately pulled the handbrake lever up, changed the gear to park, and switched off the ignition. …”

NHTSA complaint #10629189, filed 2014-08, 73,036 miles

“After filling the gas tank and driving up a hill the check engine light (cel) came on and the engine ran rough. I nursed the car up the hill and drove home. I found the gas cap was not tight even though it had been clicked one time when the tank was filled just a few minutes earlier. A search for this on the internet revealed that others have had this same problem. I tightened it to one click, of course. A few days later I bought a Toyota gas cap at a local Toyota dealership. This sequence repeated multiple times; cel turned on, engine runs rough, lose of engine power. …”

NHTSA complaint #10702958, filed 2015-03, 60,000 miles

“Runaway Toyota...I was exiting I-8 e on lake murray exit in heavy traffic and while slowing the car suddenly accelerated and hit the car ahead which it turn hit the car ahead of it. No one hurt.”
