“At 80,000 miles my transmission needs to be replaced . I have never abused this vehicle in any form and feel that Toyota should reimburse the many thousands of owners who seem to be having the same problems with this model. For the amount of money these vehicles cost it only seems fair that Toyota should be forced to stand behind their products.”

NHTSA complaint #10261894, filed 2009-03, 80,000 miles

“This vehicle was part of an earlier recall for corrosion of the frame and component parts. Toyota replaced the frame along with a corroded leaking gas tank. Approximately one week ago we noticed an oil leak from our rear differential. Upon inspection by our local mechanic he determined the rear differential housing is corroded this causing a leak. This vehicle is known for its severe corrosion of frame and component parts. We discussed out concernes over the wide spread corrosion with corporate Toyota when the frame was replaced. …”

NHTSA complaint #11083297, filed 2018-04, 150,000 miles

“I bought my truck and about three weeks ago I was driving along when it died. Anytime I came to a full stop it died. Turns out it's the transmission and a lot of other people have had the same problem. Toyota refuses to issue a recall on their planetary gear even though it malfunctions. This failure caused my truck to stop in a busy intersection and almost killed me.”

NHTSA complaint #10198770, filed 2007-08, 81,000 miles

“I brought my Tundra in for an oil change only to discover all the grease from the inside of the rubber boots covering the axles ends has comes out. The rubber boots had not failed and the clamps were still intact. The grease had made it way past the clamp. I had to have both front axles replaced at 73,000 miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10200120, filed 2007-08, 73,000 miles

“My Toyota Tundra's planetary gear exploded within the transmission and disable the vehicle completely. The transmission was in otherwise perfect condition. It left me strand on 2 separate occasions without any pre-notice that the transmission was having any issues.”
