“The frame is damaged and was told my manufacture was supposed to replace with a new one. The truck looks to be bent in between the middle. I took it to my local dealer and they are having me pay for other areas and not replacing the frame even though it's under recall.”
NHTSA complaint #11396455, filed 2021-02, 133,000 miles“The rust on my 2000 Tundra extends to more than just the rear cross member that my local dealer reported and Toyota is willing to replace. I looked under the truck today and a lot of the front end is rusted away. The steering rack has rusted to the point of having a hole in it that pumps power steering fluid onto the road. Very dangerous.”
NHTSA complaint #10307923, filed 2010-02, 80,000 miles“I noticed the spare tire dangling underneath the vehicle. When I lowered the tire I noticed that the entire cross brace had rusted out and left the spare tire held by a thin rusted piece of metal. I removed the tire and keep it in the back of the truck. If that tire broke away while driving at 65 miles an hour, it could easily have killed someone.”
NHTSA complaint #10286728, filed 2009-10, 125,000 miles“I bought a 2000 Tundra from a reputable dealer in southern n.h. In 2005 recently the spare tire fell off taking with it the lsp&bv bracket, rear shock and 2 brake lines due to excessive rust to the whole frame got case # today from Toyota not sure yet what will be done but reading all of the other problems other people are having I don't expect much.”
NHTSA complaint #10268166, filed 2009-05, 80,000 miles“I learned on the Toyota website that my 2000 Toyota Tundra was recalled to check for severe corrosion of the rear cross member. My truck failed the test and I was told it was not safe to drive. The dealer provided a rental car but has no plan for repairing the tundras or for compensating the owners. I was told the dealer would hold the Tundra until Toyota provides an answer.”
