“I bought this truck new. It has 70,000 miles. The bed and bumpers have extensive rust holes, completely through. Last year, the gas tank fell out while driving due to rusted through fuel tank straps. Now, the rear axle has started leaking due to a rusted out rear axle housing.I am a 64 yr old vet and afraid to drive the truck. If I fill up the rear axle it will get on the road and tires I have called and emailed Toyota and they told me to fix it at my expense.”

NHTSA complaint #11385234, filed 2020-12, 70,000 miles

“The truck tailgate was noticed to have paint bubbling toward the bottom on the tailgate. Further inspection shows moderate rust on the inner lip of the bottom of the tailgate where two panels come together, and is noticable when it is in a lowered position. After calling Toyota corporate national customer service line and notifying them of the issue, I was asked if rust was on the frame. Further more, I was told there is no program they have to help with such an issue. …”

“The truck bounces real bad on some concrete roads at about 65 MPH to the point I have to slow down or change lanes to get it to stop. On the same roads I can not hold the gas pedal steady its revving the engine up on every bounce I think the recall made the peddle to sensitive on rough roads.”

NHTSA complaint #10319586, filed 2010-03, 200 miles

“I just purchased a 2010 Tundra two weeks ago. While on highway this truck shakes uncontrollably. It feels like it is bending in the middle between a cabin and a bed. While driving everyone in the truck keeps bouncing off the seat at times. If this was disclosed as normal as dealer says I would have never bought this truck. Also I noticed scratches started appearing on my truck and it has on 500 miles on it especial around door handles. I am afraid to wash it.”

NHTSA complaint #10327248, filed 2010-04, 150 miles

“I bought a 2010 Toyota Tundra new. I recently noticed significant rust in the bed of my truck. After some research I discovered that the rust is also in the frame of my truck. I have found that there are multiple cases of Toyota trucks with this same issue. There have been recalls and class action lawsuits filed against Toyota for this same problem. However my model and year are not included in these. I took the truck to Toyota and they said yes this is a problem we know about however youre out of the 5 year warranty period and we will not cover the damage. …”
