“In 2015, my vehicle was part of a Toyota recall for cold weather vehicles, to undercoat the frame to mitigate any possible problems from snow, ice and salt rusting out the frame prematurely. I complied, bringing my vehicle to the local Toyota dealer, heritage ford & Toyota, 1620 shelburne rd., so. Burlington, vt. They had my vehicle for 3 days, and removed the pick up body from the vehicle and undercoated the frame from the transmission cross member to the rear of the frame. This past tues.,aug. …”
NHTSA complaint #11015096, filed 2017-08, 130,896 miles“My 2005 Toyota Tundra has 217k miles and is, mechanically, in terrific shape, except the frame has rusted out on the drivers side. Structurally, it's still drivable safely, but it will no longer pass state inspection (maine, USA). Thousands of other Toyota tundras of the same style and manufacturing process and similar model year have had frame recalls done for the exact same reason. I do not feel it is fair to skip this year. This is my family's only source of transportation right now, and it is vital to keep it on the road. Please allow a frame recall for this model year!”
NHTSA complaint #11190433, filed 2019-03, 217,000 miles“I have a Toyota Tundra 2005 that has had the throttle drivers updated. I have had at least 6 incidences of uncontrolled acceleration. These incidences occur at slow speed in muddy situations. Depressing the brakes to the floor does not stop the vehicle and I have had several near misses. This occurs in 2 wheel drive and I believe it has to do with the vsc and software. The only way to stop the throttle or unwanted momentum is to throw the vehicle into neutral. Even this does not immediately help. I recommend the ignition key as the quickest way to stop this. …”
NHTSA complaint #10318517, filed 2010-03, 50,000 miles“Upon close inspection (vehicle parked) the truck has severe (more than average) corrosion/ perforation (rust) of the main frame/ chassis. Toyota had undercoated the vehicle to resolve the issue although this only masked the underlying corrosion, allowing for the corrosion to go unnoticed. The frame has currently perforated (visible holes/ rust in the integral structure). The vehicles main structure is compromised do to the poor material/ excessive corrosion. The vehicles safety may be severely compromised.”
NHTSA complaint #11322055, filed 2020-04, 170,000 miles“Cold start of vehicle, very large noise, lasted about 1 minute. Only does this when cold start. If vehicle has been driven no sound. Research indicate, that other problems noted on the internet were the air injection pump, and switching values, has foam that has deteriorated and fell down on the dc motor and burned the motor out. Seems the manufacture knows of the problem but has only certain model years they are covering. Same part in all years but not covering 2005 which is the model year of my truck. …”
