“I recently had my truck serviced and the dealership found that one of my tires, a general ameritrac p245/70/r17 had belt separation. I insisted that this is a defect. They have yet to remedy the problem. I a concerned that the other tires, including my spare may incur this issue and lead to an accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10246280, filed 2008-10, 13,000 miles“I was driving my 2007 chevy SILVERADO 1500 at about 40 MPH when I felt a large bump. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw something flying in the air about 20 feet off the ground behind me. When I started to pull over, it bounced several times in about 20' high bounds and started rolling at me with significant velocity. That's when I realized that it was my spare tire that fell off from underneath my truck. I barely moved out of the way of the rolling tire before it hit me. It continued rolling through a busy intersection nearly hitting three cars and a pedestrian. …”
NHTSA complaint #10295402, filed 2009-12, 46,000 miles“After about 7,000 miles the treads start to come off in small pieces on the front tires, (1/8 ). The rear tires chunks are coming off in 1/4 ' to 1/2' in the center 3 rows of the treads. This is my 3rd set of tires. All resulting in lose of treads.”
