Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My husband was driving the car 2 days after we purchased it. He was coming down a slight incline and trying to yield and turn at an intersection. The power steering went out and the brakes locked up so he could not stop or control the direction of the vehicle. It was very scary with young children in the back seats! No warning lights or sounds alerted him to the failure of the steering or brakes.”

NHTSA complaint #10915112, filed 2016-10, 120,050 miles

“It was raining out and I was decreasing speed pulling into a turning lane, the car lost steering and brakes until I was able to get it off the road and turn it off and restart it.”

NHTSA complaint #10789257, filed 2015-11, 81,000 miles

“When driving, our 07 Pacifica will randomly lose power and there will be no brakes and no steering. I have to put it in neutral and restart the engine while the car is still in motion. This has occurred on the freeway and also around town. It is most noticeable when I am approaching a corner or stop light/ stop sign and slowing down to turn or to stop. On the freeway, I was not slowing down or preparing to stop when it happened. The check engine light and etc light (electronic throttle control light) come on when it happens. …”

NHTSA complaint #10627831, filed 2014-08, 122,092 miles

“My car stops running shortly after driving within a few minutes with zero warning. When this happens the power steering and breaks stop functioning. I have been able to successfully been able to restart the car and continue to my destination. This creates a defiant safety hazard and has happened randomly on multiple occasions. The stalling started at the time when the check engine light and 'gascap' warning message came on - permanently. The mechanics have been unable to fine the problem and there are no computer code readings. Has there been a recall for this problem from Chrysler?”

NHTSA complaint #10979797, filed 2017-04, 156,713 miles

“On september 15th I was taking my son to school when all of my idiot lights came on and stayed on. Once I got back home and turned the car off I noticed that something was still running. After opening the hood I realized it was my ABS system that want shutting off. I was able to disconnect the sensor but have been too fearful to drive it since then. My father ran a code checker and nothing was showing up except the fuel cap (which was replaced but still showing that warning light). He drove the car and noticed that the speedometer wasn't working.”
