Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Was finished shopping , the car was parked ror about two hours. When I got in I noticed a small crack in the sunroof glass. I checked the outside and there was no indication of any damage from an impact. It has grown from that initial crack. Checked on line and found many of the same problems and Ford keeps saying its because of impacts. I beg to differ.”

NHTSA complaint #11202959, filed 2019-04, 35,670 miles

“While driving down the interstate we hear a loud 'pop' which sounded like a balloon popping then a crackling noise. I looked back and the entire rear window on the hatch of our EDGE had shattered. Luckily it stayed in tact until we returned home and when I shut a door it started to break all of the way open. We were not traveling by any other vehicle at the time this happened.”

NHTSA complaint #11054924, filed 2017-12, 31,000 miles

“The vehicle was parked in my driveway and occupied by myself and three children in the back seat. The window imploded when the front passenger door was closed as my husband entered the SUV. My son in the back seat received a small cut over his left eye, another child was hit by the glass but uninjured.”

NHTSA complaint #10959685, filed 2017-03, 36,500 miles

“The sunroof glass randomly and inexplicably cracked while the vehicle was parked in a sun-drenched parking lot. I heard a loud crack which resulted in a small crack that rapidly progressed into a spiderweb of cracks over the next few hours and while driving home. See attached pictures. There is no evidence of foreign object impact . My understanding from internet searches is that this is a common problem with this model vehicle/sunroof.”

NHTSA complaint #11209963, filed 2019-05, 50,000 miles

“My car was sitting in garage I do not drive very much. I got in and looked up getting ready to back up and noticed a wavy crack. Nothing has hit it been in garage. No marks of anything hitting it. I have read about several others had the same thing happen.”
