“The back up camera does not operate when the weather is very cold and the car has not warmed up. The camera does not come on at all when backing up. I took car to the dealership and showed them photos from the last 2 occurrences, so dealer kept the car overnight but claimed that they were unable to reproduce the problem and that no diagnostic codes were seen. I have photos to prove that the camera is malfunctioning, but yet they refuse to replace since they claim Ford will not allow them. If the backup camera is a safety feature, then why aren't they correcting the problem? …”
NHTSA complaint #11396156, filed 2021-02, 31,500 miles“I am writing to express my concern with how Ford is handling Safety Recall 25S89. I have had numerous incidents where the camera has failed when backing up and have photos to document these instances. I brought my 2017 Edge to the dealership today and was told that it did not need replacement. So, it's safe to have the camera display a blank screen some of the time? I would think that the rationale behind a backup camera is that it is safe 100% of the time or it should be replaced. If a part fails only some of the time, is it considered a safe part per the NHTSA? …”
NHTSA complaint #11743196, filed 2026-06“The rear camera started to turn into a blue screen and sometimes it looked like static. We were told to go to Ford to change the camera (2020 or 2021?). After paying over $900 to fix the camera it broke yet again. We were 3 months past the 2 year warranty and was told if we wanted it fixed we would have to pay again. Now sometimes the camera works when backing out and sometimes its just solid blue. It is available for inspection upon request. This is risky because sometimes there are blind spots when turning our heads to ensure we are not going to hit a pedestrian. …”
NHTSA complaint #11666135, filed 2025-06“The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the rearview camera intermittently displayed a blank or flickering image. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer advised that the parts were unavailable to complete the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11743034, filed 2026-06, 140,000 miles“The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after shifting into reverse(R), the back over prevention camera image failed to display on the screen. The contact stated that the display screen was black and the message Camera Not Available was displayed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 80,000.”
