“On 4/10/2014, I was driving the vehicle and noticed that when I let my foot off the gas pedal, the car showed no signs of slowing...as if I was still accelerating. I had to use the brake to make the car slow down. On 4/12/2015, I was pulling into the driveway and let my foot off the pedal to coast to the parking position, when it suddenly accelerated, and I almost hit our fence. There is definitely something wrong with the acceleration system.”

NHTSA complaint #10705172, filed 2015-04, 204,176 miles

“While driving at normal speeds on ice-glazed winter roads in fairbanks, ak, I approached an intersection and took my foot off the accelerator to prepare to slow down. Instead of dropping to idle speeds, the engine accelerated up to 3500-4000 RPM. I shifted the automatic transmission to neutral and was able to stop the car with the brakes, but the engine continued to race at high-throttle until I shut off the engine. …”

NHTSA complaint #10466593, filed 2012-07, 68,500 miles

“Accelerator stuck on 2002 Ford Escape. At 80mph I finally turned off ignition to stop. Throttle cable broke. There was a recall for this in 2002 but not for my particular car. Ford customer service and Ford recall center refused to pay for repairs at dealer. I was lucky to survive this incident. Who knows how many other 2002 Ford escapes also have this problem??”

NHTSA complaint #10214472, filed 2008-01, 55,000 miles

“I bought my 2002 Ford Escape in feb. 2015. Since then often when I put it in park it revs, the rpms range from 1500-3000. I read that a recall was declared in december of 2004. My car idles at a high range.”

NHTSA complaint #10790058, filed 2015-11, 116,000 miles

“My 2002 Ford Escape was bought new in march of 2002. The problem with it accelerating at low speeds started about 6-7 months later. Returned to the dealership many times to have it checked but was told every time there was nothing wrong. I've had one accident as a result of this problem. I still own the same Escape and still have the problem with it . I was told that there were no complaints of this nature with these models but have since learned that there have been many. …”
