“We have had problems with this vehicle from day one. Currently the big issue is the throttle body (which I've seen has been a problem with all the Ford escapes). Also the mass air flow system, heating/air, and security system (also it has a problem not starting---not sure if that's also throttle body). Is this being recalled?”

NHTSA complaint #10515777, filed 2013-06, 72,000 miles

“Visible particulate matter of unknown origin coming from interior heating/cooling ducts of 2009 Ford Escape. Dealer kept car for 2 days to blow out the system and eliminate the problem but it still persists, causing me to cough and sneeze. Dealer states the white residue is not harmful but I do not agree and would like to have samples tested for toxicity and harmful effects from continuous inhalation.”

NHTSA complaint #10365280, filed 2010-11, 8,500 miles

“As I was driving, the accelerator pedal suddenly stopped responding and the wrench and check engine lights came on. I was able to pull over and put on the hazard lights. After turning the engine off and restarting, the accelerator pedal responded again and I was able to drive for a short while before it failed again. This was very dangerous. I repeated this cycle until I was able to get the car to the dealership, where I was notified that the codes indicated a faulty throttle body. …”

NHTSA complaint #10515059, filed 2013-06, 58,000 miles

“My Ford Escape is a 2009, 3 year old car with regular maintenance checks. On july 12th, I opened and closed the driver door and the window slid down. Once taken to get diagnosed, I was told the regular cable had gone out. I had it fixed and was on my way. On july 16th, just 4 days after, I was picking up dry cleaning, I put clothes in the back seat, and once the door was closed, same thing happened, window slowly slid down. No opening/closing windows to provoke it. I was told once again it was the regulator cable and needed to be replaced. …”

NHTSA complaint #10466691, filed 2012-07, 44,000 miles

“We got in the car ready to go to the store and the passenger side door was shut and the back rear window exploded. Glass shattered everywhere. Luckily no one was injured.”
