“The intermediate shift bracket sheared off/broke at the transition where it mounts to engine. Vehicle shakes violently while braking at higher speeds... Lesser movement at slower speeds while braking. I had just replaced my brakes and done them several time with rotors trying to correct the problem, thinking it was something I had done. Finally found it when greasing front calipers hoping to cure the problem yet again.”

NHTSA complaint #11414980, filed 2021-05, 105,000 miles

“Coming out of a car wash at idle speed and moving into the vacuum area the brake pedal stopped responding, I am a notorious brake rider, the car kept rolling and actually hit the vacuum, rolled on over a hill and down into an adjacent parking lot where the brakes finally took hold. As the Explorer went over the hill I kept pounding the brake pedal but nothing happened. The car rolled down the parking area and then it stopped. Damage was to the right corner of the vehicle and a vacuum laying on its side. According to the station attendant this was not an unusual event.”

NHTSA complaint #10990487, filed 2017-05, 29,000 miles

“The electrical system periodically goes out, the dash lights blink off and on, alrms go off with messages that state there is a failure of terrain, management, ABS system and power steering, then the power steering goes out immediately , dash is black. This is very dangerous , it seems to be a known issue with Ford when researching the issue. Someone can wreck and die with this electrical failure”

NHTSA complaint #11144969, filed 2018-11, 70,000 miles

“City of soledad california police interceptor utility brake pedal went to the floor loss brake fluid during patrol no one got hurt found passenger side hose rip suddenly. NHTSA complaint #11301472, filed 2020-01, 53,880 miles

“The affected vehicles have a parking brake that may not fully engage when applied. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 135, light vehicle brake systems. Consequence: if the parking brake does not fully engage and the transmission is left in a gear other than 'park' while on a slope, the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.”
