“Front and rear passenger side tires simultaneously blew out while driving at 65 MPH. As a result, driver lost control of the vehicle and impacted a guard rail. Upon impact of the guard rail vehicle spun several times. The truck was totaled. Driver sustained head, back, and forearm injuries.”
NHTSA complaint #10046398, filed 2003-11, 130,000 miles“Driving on highway 54,doing 65 in a 70,tread separated off tire while we were trying to get under control and out of traffic the tire beat against my truck causing severe damagefore and after the tire damaging the sheet metal, ripping the inner fender well out and damaging a leaf spring. (DOT number: vdhlfrw208 tiresize: p235/75r15)”
NHTSA complaint #752480, filed 2001-09“This particular tire was not on the recall list and had only 15,000 miles, but I wanted to replace them anyway. Upon replacing them, we found a large, soft, jelly-like spot on one of the rear tires. It was thin and beginning to split even though the tread( DOT number: w2 tire size: p265/75r15 )”
NHTSA complaint #731809, filed 2000-09“Tread has separated on these tires 4 out 5 that I have purchased. I have had body damage to the vehicle on 2 of those occasions. These tires seem to have been manufactured at the firestone plant in question, regarding the other firestone tire recalls. I feel that this failure rate is unusually high. I have all maintainance records on this vehicle and can prove that the vehicle is well maintained. (DOT number: vnhl lm4 tiresize: 235/75/r15)”
NHTSA complaint #752359, filed 2001-09“Since the last time I filled out a form on these tires I now have 2 out of 4 tires with cracks and splits on the sidewalls. I am hoping that this will help in the case to force a full blown recall on all of these tires. The summer months are right around the corner and it has already been hot in my area. I have to drive over 20 miles each way to work on hills and curves and am concerned about my safety. Thank you very much. Peggy anthrop (DOT number: w2hl1py038 tiresize: p235/75r15)”
