“My 1994 Ford F-150 with only 58,000 miles was parked for about an hour when it caught on fire. The truck was an absolutely perfect condition inside and out except for the cruise control, which was not working. I was looking at the dealer web site and found out my vehicle had a recall. However Ford never sent my a recall notice.”

NHTSA complaint #10170252, filed 2006-10, 58,000 miles

“The same thing happened to my 1994 f- 150. I took the truck in for the recall and the dealer said they would disconnect the cruise control until the parts come in to fix the problem. I didn't hear from the dealer for a few months, so I called them and the dealer had me bring in my truck. I was told that it was already fixed and that another problem occurred and that I would have to buy another part. However, the cruise control worked fine until I took my truck in for the recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10227670, filed 2008-05, 180,000 miles

“My 1994 Ford f150 had engine fire on september 18 2005. On september 20 I received a recall notice from Ford on a cruise control switch that causes engine fires. Ford recently sent out 3.8 million notice that included 1994 through 2002 f type trucks. I file a claim with Ford asking for replacement value ( $4000) with no luck. Ford sent be a letter that said the defect could not be verified due to the extensive damage to your vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10145145, filed 2005-12, 150,000 miles

“On august 27,2004 my vehicle caught on fire parked in the driveway. The last time the vehicle was driven was between 8pm-8:30pm. Around 11pm I heard a popping sound looked out window of my home and the truck was in flames.”

NHTSA complaint #10134708, filed 2005-08, 78,000 miles

“When accelerating to merge onto the freeway, the throttle (pedal) suddenly moved of its own accord to a completely full throttle position. The pedal moved on its own from beneath my foot, just as it would if the cruise control was engaged. It stayed in this stuck position while meanwhile, to keep the vehicle under control, I stood on the brake to avoid accelerating to top speed. By constant application of the brake I was able to keep the vehicle speed at around 85 MPH, but not without extreme effort. Meanwhile I tried pushing all of the cruise control switches, with no effect. …”
