Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Ford f150 transmission. At idle when the gear was placed in reverse, the vehicle would jerk hard, the ignition switch would get really hot, the horn went out, the air bag light illuminated, the engine idler pulley had to be replaced, the original nylon bushing had worn out, the wiper switch only displayed two speeds, the wiper washer stopped working, the anti lock brakes stopped working, the dome light had a short and the alternator had gone bad.”

NHTSA complaint #10113596, filed 2005-03, 10,000 miles

“All of intermittent windshield wiper settings do not work all of the time. Additionally, sometimes I must jiggle the turn signal assembly to acctivate the headlights. More than once I have been driving for an undetermined amount of time before I realize my headlights are not working. I have had this part replaced before for he same problems. My wife owns a '98 Ford explorer, same problem. A friend owns a '98 Ford taurus, same problem. Is this a safety related item that the manufacturer must keep replacing free of charge?”

NHTSA complaint #718153, filed 2000-02

“When the wiper switch is turned onto intermittent , the time span between wipes is very irregular, sometimes up to 2 or 3 minutes between swipes of the wiper. Also, the wipers do not function when put on the slow speed of the switch, and the switch must be turned up to full speed.”

NHTSA complaint #718142, filed 2000-01

“When driving and using the windshield wipers, the windshield wipers would come on without putting them on. When touching the knob they will come on/stay on and go off by themselves. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and the dealer put in a new multi-function switch.”

NHTSA complaint #831106, filed 1998-11

“Poor performance on the front brakes, brakes will lock up. Tt the vehicle had been to sevice numerous times for brake and transmission problems. The driver side window goes up and down sluggishly and makes rubbing noise.”

NHTSA complaint #975439, filed 1995-11
