“The truck had been parked in my driveway and I went out to get something out of it. I closed the driver door like normal and the rear window blew out upon closing. The ambient air was probably 72 degrees and it was around 8pm. The trucks interior was the same as ambient temperature. Furthermore, it does not have a rear defroster.”

NHTSA complaint #11101071, filed 2018-06, 336 miles

“Used auto start to warm up the truck. Went and started down the street and noticed back window had exploded on both sides of the sliding window. Sliding part was fine. Window was fine when parked 8 hours before. This sat where no one or anything could hit it behind my house. Dealer said it my insurance's problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11176600, filed 2019-02, 3,300 miles

“Ford 2018 f150 rear window / defroster issues - luckily, my rear window did not shatter as others have experienced, but I have experienced defroster overheating to the point where 2 out of 3 sections of the window no longer work. Upon inspection, it appears the resistive elements are burnt and becoming delaminated from the window in multiple places. I did also smell warm/burning electronics at the time it happened. …”

NHTSA complaint #11184319, filed 2019-03, 19,000 miles

“Vehicle was in the garage, parked. I got in started the vehicle, heard what sounded like wind chimes, got out, looked under the truck and saw glass. I then noticed the back window was shattered. There was never any impact to the window.”

NHTSA complaint #11404667, filed 2021-03, 35,000 miles

“Brand new truck with 750 miles was stationary at a light with cars stationary all around when out of nowhere a huge boom/explosion happened. I look in the rearview mirror and see that the entire rear window(save the middle slider window that's one a separate track) has shattered, but mostly intact, into a million pieces. Upon close inspection I noticed 99% of the glass in the bed and of truck and a few very small particles on the rear headrests. …”
