“Apparently there is a problem with the clockspring in the steering column of the 1994 Ford F-150. When this breaks, as it apparently often does, there is an open circuit between the air bag & the sensors rendering the airbag inoperable. I have not been in contact with the manufacturer yet, only the dealer. I just wanted others to know of this potential hazard. I found a forum on a google search on my problem (1994 Ford F-150 flashing a code 32). With parts & labor this is going to be approximately $250.00 to repair. …”
NHTSA complaint #10046788, filed 2003-11, 160,000 miles“Incident date 7/24/2007; mileage 158,487. Product failure of the circular steering switch on my 1994 Ford f150 truck. Failure of this switch deactivates the airbag deployment and the horn. Two prior incidents of same failure on 4/4/2001 mileage 105,900 and again on approximately 5/11/2001. These failures may indicate an systemic issue possibly requiring a vehicle recall program.”
NHTSA complaint #10197763, filed 2007-07, 158,475 miles“The steering box shaft had pitted and the seal came out which caused the power steering fluid leaked out of vehicle. The consumer had a new sector shaft and seal installed then two years later the seal went out again. The consumer asked the technician why this continued to happen and the explanation he received was that it had to do with the design.”
NHTSA complaint #10092055, filed 2004-10, 131,000 miles“Consumer took vehicle to dealer for an oil change, and mechanic advised the consumer that oil rusted from inside. Also. Steering wheel was not working properly when making left or right turns.”
