Example complaints

Tires: “I have a 2000 Ford f-450 with 19.5 general tires. I had a flat tire whereby the valve stem blew out. I had to replace the valve stems in all tires because, according to the tire shop where they were replaced, they were the wrong valve stems. The stems were not for high pressure tires but rather regular automobile tires. Ford had a recall but only checked to see if they were leaking. They shouild have replaced them with the proper valves.”

NHTSA complaint #10068350, filed 2004-05, 31,200 miles

Fuel system: “- the contact was having continuous failures with 2000 Ford f450 truck. The fuel tank corroded, causing it to clog the fuel injection system. The contact called Ford ,and was told to contact NHTSA. The mechanic told him that there have been several Ford fuel tanks having the same failure. The original fuel tank was in the vehicle for 6 years, the first replacement of fuel tank lasted eight months. The vehicle was currently being repaired.”

NHTSA complaint #10177328, filed 2006-12, 100,024 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “Transmission failure of 4r100 Ford transmission that has been serviced by Ford since 2000 (when bought) and no mention of a factory overheating problem that an upgraded cooler (per TSB) would have avoided.”

NHTSA complaint #10025928, filed 2003-07, 85,960 miles

Engine cooling: “I've had two spark plugs blow out in the last five hundred mile in my 2000 f-450. I've got to say its a real hazard to be hauling a load, suddenly loose drastic power and be rattled by the abrupt spark plug explosion. Not only that, but the fuel rail is right there. In fact the second spark plug I had eject made a series of explosions while I was traveling up hill on a very busy narrow road pulling my chipper. Both times I smelt a strong and consistent odor of fuel, another hazard. Both times the truck hesitated and attempted staling while in travel. …”
