Example complaints

Fuel system: “Ford f 450 diesel fuel tank is delaminating causing the truck to stall causing a dangerous situation on the road. From research on the internet, this is not an isolated problem. Apparently Ford is ignoring the problem and shifting the blame to fuel. My chevy nor my fathers dodge have this problem. It is very expensive to fix.”

NHTSA complaint #10350176, filed 2010-08, 50,000 miles

Engine cooling: “While driving our f-450 truck pulling our 6 horse trailer, has several times, had the engine just quit while traveling down the highway at 70mph. Barely getting it off the road safely with a load of horses. Ford has repeatedly replaced injectors, which they claim being the problem, but it has recurred 3 more times. Does it take a death before the problem is remedied? This has happened 3 times previously.”

NHTSA complaint #10232266, filed 2008-06, 99,300 miles

Engine: “Vehicle billowing white smoke when started. Not drivable. Towed to recommended local truck repair company. Much testing including cylinder heads themselves. #7 cylinder pushing coolant. Head gasket showing signs of leaking. Replaced. A month in shop. $4,000 repair bill. Ford needs to take responsibility for frequency of this issue at low mileage.”

NHTSA complaint #10549993, filed 2013-10, 47,895 miles

Electrical system: “The fuel injector controls went out at less than 15,000 miles. After that engine always ran hot. Engine buned up at less than 60,000 miles. They put a new one in and now the turbo is not operating right, truck will only pull a load at 50 MPH. All of the events listed here happened before the truck was one year old! Because of all of these faults I have missed about 2 months of work waiting on them to get it fixed. I feed my family with my truck, if it doesn't work they don't eat.”
