“We used the remote to unlock the door and the driver side mirror immediately caught on fire. Engine was not started and door was never opened. We blew the fire out. Does not appear to have harmed any other electrical parts except the mirror. Very strange. Odometer reading is only 63099 original miles.”
NHTSA complaint #11152950, filed 2018-11, 63,099 miles“When my 2006 Ford Freestyle sits parked running with air on I put it in reverse or drive and the rpms rev up over 2,000 and when I hit brakes wrench light comes on. My husband read the codes and talked to a Ford mechanic and said it a bad throttle body. When the car revs up it tries to lung forward or backward quickly. Throttle body needs replacement.”
NHTSA complaint #10410221, filed 2011-07, 85,835 miles“My 2006 Ford Freestyle is lurching when I do not have the accelerator pressed. It usually happens in reverse, but has also happened in heavy traffic and completely stalled. The wrench light comes on but when you shut off the motor and restart it is usually fine again. This has happened approximately 10 times over the last three months.”
NHTSA complaint #10410640, filed 2011-07, 85,000 miles“Multiple times, it seems, when we have the air conditioner on, our vehicle accelerates on its own. We have almost hit others in parking lots, intersections and on the road because of this. Sometimes, it even accelerates on its own when the brakes are applied. Our vehicle has also shut off when the air conditioner is on.”
NHTSA complaint #10406456, filed 2011-06, 39,000 miles“We had been driving for approx. 3 1/2 hours and pulled over to a gas station. When I went to drive it again, I put it in reverse to back out of a parking spot and it lunged. I put on my brake fast. . It scared me. It had never done that before. It made it the rest of the trip. Since then, it lunges every now and then.”
