“Several times my vehicle surges forward when moving at slow speeds or braking. This has happened while driving forward and reverse. More noticeable when the A/C is on. Even when my foot is on the brake - the car accelerates on it's own and lunges forward. I can hear the engine revving when this is happening - even though my foot is on the brake.”

NHTSA complaint #10404950, filed 2011-06, 72,184 miles

“97,000 miles. I have replaced the throttle body twice, new transmission- hole I n the drive shaft. 3 rear brake jobs- the 1st on was by recall. Cracked motorhead 12,000 miles after new transmission. The whole car shakes, squeaks, and pops since the transmission was put in. From the cv joints and back brakes.”

NHTSA complaint #10410292, filed 2011-07, 75,019 miles

“Premature brake wear - 2007 Ford Freestyle, our 2007 Freestyle needed rear brake pads and rotors replaced at only 23,400 miles. This car was driven mainly on the highways, with little stop-and-go city driving. While no accident occurred, premature wear could have affected the car's handling in an emergency stop. The dealer and manufacturer refuse to reimburse me for the $400 replacement cost.”

NHTSA complaint #10282695, filed 2009-09, 23,400 miles

“The vehicles accelerates when brake is on. Has happened on multiple occasions and for both drivers of vehicle. The vehicle just surges forward a short distance. Don't know exact first date as it was infrequent and I thought maybe I was imagining it. Second driver of vehicle confirmed problem. Only goes forward a few inches but very scary and frequency is increasing. Will be taking to shop. See this is listed on web sites as a frequent problem with the 2007 Freestyle.”

NHTSA complaint #10462883, filed 2012-06, 51,000 miles

“From the 1st day I leased the vehicle from progressive auto, I could hear it raving high, steering wheel really heavy, brakes seemed strange and heavy to move. But the sales man kept telling and showing me a report that the vehicle is fine, and kept saying, its the type of engine in the vehicle (CVT) that's why it all seems strange. I kept going back to them advising them that I know something is wrong, but they kept saying they cannot find anything wrong. Finally I took it to a Ford dealership, and they advised me it was a transmission, brakes and suspension problem. …”
