“Unable to start car immediately after filling gas tank. Also, upon stopping at light or turning a corner it feels like the gas is not going to the engine and I am unable to move forward. This forces me to pull over to the side of the road.. At the time I had the air conditioner on and now am told the compressor is bad. There is loud clicking (like the computer is 'thinking') coming from under the dash.”

NHTSA complaint #10783367, filed 2015-10, 105,000 miles

“My Freestyle has started to lunge forward at times when immediately taking my foot off the brake in forward or backward motion. After making a turn today it did it too, but this time the transmission light came on. It has happened many times over the last couple of months. The weather has been very hot too. I have a new teenaged driver so this is disconcerting.”

NHTSA complaint #10466429, filed 2012-07, 100,000 miles

“Auto was repaired 2008 by non Ford dealer before the recall happened for problem of auto surging forward and backwards. Then Ford reimbursed the money $700.00 of repair. Now car has 110k miles and is surging forward and backwards again . Very dangerous for me and family. I would like for Ford to repair my vehicle again. Original repair was for the car surging forward and backwards and I feel that with only 110k miles on it, I should not be experiencing this dangerous issue again!!!”

NHTSA complaint #11230945, filed 2019-07, 110,000 miles

“My Ford Freestyle has 87,000 miles. Until recently, it has been a terrific car. However, it now has had intermittent problems that (according to the code) are linked to the throttle body. The transmission and engine lights come on. The accelerator doesn't work, and then it lunges unexpectedly. After researching online, I found hundreds of others are having this issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10422669, filed 2011-08, 87,000 miles

“97,000 miles. I have replaced the throttle body twice, new transmission- hole I n the drive shaft. 3 rear brake jobs- the 1st on was by recall. Cracked motorhead 12,000 miles after new transmission. The whole car shakes, squeaks, and pops since the transmission was put in. From the cv joints and back brakes.”
