“My 2007 Ford Freestyle cuts off repeatedly after almost every red light stop. I saw a lot of complaints about this matter with different Ford freestyles and no one seems to know the cause. Mainly anytime I apply the brakes the cut shuts off and puts myself and family in life- threatening situations. Also, the vehicle idles high while my feet on on the breaks.”
NHTSA complaint #10861975, filed 2016-04, 3 miles“As has been reported by others, the vehicle will accelerate unexpectedly at low speeds when in reverse and drive, while the brake is engaged or I'm just letting off the brakes. I have to mash the brakes hard and keep them engaged for several seconds until the acceleration slows to normal. The problem seems to happen more frequently when the A/C is on.”
NHTSA complaint #10460735, filed 2012-06, 44,000 miles“The vehicle routinely lurches forward while my foot is on the brake and the engine is idling. This began during the summer of 2009, and continues today. It is especially common during warm weather. Sometimes after this happens, the engine will stall after I take my foot off the brake and try to accelerate on my own.”
NHTSA complaint #10465890, filed 2012-07, 40,000 miles“My 2007 Ford Freestyle transmission started slipping recently. I have always taken good care of my car and my mechanic just told me that I need a new transmission. He also told me that there have been many problems with the 2007 Ford Freestyle transmissions. I cannot believe I have to replace my transmission which costs approximately $6,000.00 to replace. I will be contacting Ford directly as well.”
NHTSA complaint #10524880, filed 2013-07, 147,000 miles“When I am driving my car it will start to take off without me pushing down on the gas pedal. I am having issues when trying to put the car in reverse, the car will hesitate while driving in reverse. When putting the car in drive or reverse the car will jump.”
