What owners report

Owners of this model year most often describe vibration or shaking from the front end during acceleration, which several complaints tie to the front CV axles, along with transmission behavior ranging from shuddering to brief losses of drive. A separate cluster concerns the touchscreen and rearview camera freezing, and a smaller group describes the 12-volt battery dropping into battery-saver mode.

  1. Transmission and drivetrain

Front-end shake or vibration when accelerating (CV axles)

    • 10 complaints (14%)
    • median 3,200 mi at 1.4 yrs old (1 states mileage, few)
    • filed 2025–2026

Owners describe a shake or wobble from the front of the truck that appears under acceleration and worsens with harder throttle or at highway speeds, sometimes settling once the vehicle is up to speed. Several complaints say the cause was traced to the front CV axles or a leaking CV boot, with one or both axles replaced. Tires were often balanced, rotated or replaced first without curing the vibration. Reported from roughly 20,000 to 50,000 miles, with some noting it at lower mileage.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“CV Axel = vibration under acceleration I will be taking it in. soon for the inspection The vibration is getting worse and has me concerned Not yet ill be taking it in shortly but this is a known problem among the community no warning lamps.”

    NHTSA complaint #11645630, filed 2025-02

“CV axles failed around 42,000 miles. Purchased new tires due to one being worn. After new tires the front end was shaking on acceleration onto the highway. Vibration stopped once the vehicle got up to speed. The tires were rebalanced but that didn't help. The mechanic found the problem to be the CV axles. Once both were replaced the vibration finally stopped.”

    NHTSA complaint #11725464, filed 2026-03
  2. Electrical system

    Touchscreen and rearview camera freeze

    • 9 complaints (12%)
    • median 8,000 mi at 1.6 yrs old (3 state mileage, few)
    • 1 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Complaints describe the center touchscreen locking up, sometimes leaving the display stuck on the rearview camera image after shifting out of reverse or cutting off access to other screen functions. Connectivity and app features are also mentioned as unreliable. Some owners say a recall software update was performed but the freezing or an uneven camera image returned, and dealers were not always able to reproduce the problem. Reported across a wide mileage range, from a few thousand miles upward, and not tied to a single season.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“I have the latest software update as of June 2025, recently when I shifted from reverse to Drive, the display stuck in backup camera picture. I have to put it back to Park and try again to drive and get to driving map display screen.”

    NHTSA complaint #11705413, filed 2025-12

“My reverse camera was having intermittent issues consistent with the recall notice where it would freeze and not show a true representation of what was behind the vehicle while in reverse. I had the recall repair work done by my local dealer for the reverse camera and the problem has not been fully resolved. The framerate on the reverse camera is still inconsistent, and the problem has not been fixed entirely. It does not give me confidence that the screen will not freeze again in the future. …”

  3. Transmission and drivetrain

Brief loss of drive or unexpected neutral

    • 10 complaints (14%)
    • typically at 2.0 yrs old
    • filed 2024–2026

Owners report moments where the truck stops responding to the accelerator or behaves as though it has slipped into neutral, sometimes with a powertrain message or warning light and sometimes with no warning at all. In some complaints the vehicle was restarted and drove normally afterward; others describe repairs such as a transmission or accelerator pedal connector replacement, and in some cases the dealer could not duplicate the concern. Reported from around 5,000 miles upward; several describe it happening while driving at speed or pulling away from a stop.

“I was driving and the vehicle stopped like it was in neutral. I started rolling backwards into a vehicle. He honked and I slammed on breaks. I put flashers on. Waited a bit. Turned off and on and it started. I drove home and called service dept”

    NHTSA complaint #11724339, filed 2026-03

“I have a Maverick (24 AWD XLT) and this issue has occurred twice. It happened on my vehicle the first time as I was trying to turn left, up an incline, with oncoming traffic - loss of acceleration. There was simultaneously a service light and power train malfunction message that went to my ford app. The vehicle had 5k miles on it. I took it immediate to the dealer. After testing they said the connection at the accelerator was loose (pigtail) and replaced. …”

  4. Transmission and drivetrain

Transmission shudder or harsh low-speed behavior

    • 6 complaints (8%)
    • median 3,200 mi at 1.4 yrs old (1 states mileage, few)
    • filed 2024–2026

Complaints describe shuddering, hesitation or rough shifting from the automatic transmission, often noticed at lower speeds or when accelerating from a stop. In some cases owners report the dealer applied software updates or performed repairs, while others say the concern was not resolved or returned later. Reported across a broad mileage range, often within the first several thousand miles.

  5. Electrical system

    12-volt battery drains, battery-saver mode

    • 6 complaints (8%)
    • typically at 2.2 yrs old
    • filed 2025–2026

Owners describe the truck going into a battery-saver or sleep state, with messages prompting them to drive to recharge and remote features or auto stop-start switching off. Some say charging or long drives restored function only briefly, and a few report the battery was replaced or that dealers could not find the cause. Often reported within the first year, sometimes after the vehicle sat for several days.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“After about 10 months after buying this hybrid truck, the 12v battery was not holding a charge. I started to receive emails on my phone from the truck stating it was going into sleep mode and to drive the truck to maintain the charge. I did this for 45 minutes at 60 MPH. It apeared to charge but did not last more than a couple of days. I drove the truck from south carolina to ohio. I was in ohio for 10 days and drove about 750 miles and then back to sc with no problems. However, after 4 weeks, I started getting the same emails. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11714973, filed 2026-02

“Auto stop/start and remote functions disabled due to battery unable to meet electrical demands of the vehicle. As delivered the battery is insufficient to meet the needs of the vehicle and needs to be externally charged or driven for over 2 hrs to regain function. My concern is that in normal driving the battery ability to deliver energy may become insufficient.”

Buying note. Ask for the service history on the front axles and any transmission software updates, and confirm the outstanding rearview camera and powertrain recalls were completed. A test drive that includes steady acceleration from low speed is the simplest way to check for the front-end vibration owners describe.

Summary written with AI from a sample of 60 NHTSA complaints for this model year (picked at random, with complaints that state a mileage and recent ones taken first), then checked automatically against the source records. Where a problem shows a complaint count, every complaint for this model year was matched with fixed keyword rules (written with AI and tested against the sample), and the mileage, age and repair figures are calculated from those complaints; owners' figures are as stated, not verified. Other counts refer to the sample. The excerpts come from NHTSA's public complaint records and are unverified; capitalisation is normalised, NHTSA staff notes are removed, and shortened text ends with “…”. Something wrong? Example complaints

Transmission and drivetrain: “While traveling on an interstate highway at night, my gas 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat unexpectedly shifted into neutral. I was not sure what was happening as the truck began to slow even while I was accelerating, I then realized it was in neutral. While still traveling at approximately 40 mph I shifted back into drive and everything was ok.”

NHTSA complaint #11679758, filed 2025-08

Electrical system: “Upon exiting my garage I always stop to close the door. My driveway has incline. I begin to roll back, hit the breaks several times with no engagement, begin pumping the brake pedal several times, no response. Continued to roll in reverse going across the street and hit neighbor's park car in their driveway. Police Officer noted that brake pedal was very low upon applying brakes and a hiss sound of like a vacuum or pressure lost. Reported a claim to insurance company. I never observed any indication of faults. Had truck toed to Greiner Ford to be inspected and or repaired. …”

NHTSA complaint #11619446, filed 2024-10

Other or unknown: “Driving my Tremor off road and got a flat tire. Discovered the OE jack does not lift vehicle high enough off the ground to allow removal of tire in case of a flat. I believe it is due to fact that vehicle comes with a 1inch lift and tremor specific tires. I don’t think engineers thought about the jack when they added tremor package to the Maverick line.”

NHTSA complaint #11641142, filed 2025-02

Brakes: “6-18-25, driving at 20 mph in my neighborhood, applied brakes and pedal sank to the floor with no pressure. Pumped approximately six times with no pressure. On the last pump, I got severe juddering through the truck ( felt similar to an ABS activation) still no pedal pressure, but it did stop. Upon shutdown and restart, pedal was back to normal. Obvious safety issue as it would have caused a collision had I been on anything other than a quiet street. There were no warning lights on the dash and no fluid leaks. This is a new truck with 470 miles on it. Vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership. …”
