NHTSA complaint #11180439, filed 2019-02, 15 miles

“2015 Mustang 2.3 liter. Purchased brand new from fairfield Ford in california. Mustang rear ended 2014 prius at highway speed. Severe accident. Steering wheel airbag failed to inflate in Mustang. Lower airbag in driver footwell inflated only. Driver seatbelt retractor is not locked potentially should be immobilized. Driver of Mustang suffered 2 broken ribs, 2 cracked ribs, and a cracked sternum. Her face also struck the steering wheel and caused her to become unconscious for a little while . …”

NHTSA complaint #10948541, filed 2017-01, 27,223 miles

“The driver-side seat belt retractor on my 2015 Ford Mustang GT Premium has failed. The seat belt retracts back into the retractor housing when released; however, it does not lock when pulled sharply and continues to extend freely. I confirmed this by repeatedly performing a rapid pull test while seated in the vehicle. The failure affects the seat belt restraint system because the belt does not appear to engage its locking mechanism. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash because the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant during sudden deceleration or impact. …”

NHTSA complaint #11742166, filed 2026-06

“Seat Belt Tensioner: Seat belt tensioner is not retaining tension. Inordinate amount of slack when taking off belt coupled with slow retraction. Also have noticed lack of tension during sudden stopping. The belt will also not retract up exiting the vehicle. I’ve reported to the dealer and they commented they’ve seen this plenty of times. This seems like a major safety concern.”
