“While driving on the freeway at speeds of approximetely 70mph and hitting bumps on the road the front end goes into a violent wobble almost lost control. After slowing down it stops. This has occurred ~7 times and is noww in the 4th round of repairs. Dealer does not know what is causing problem nor how to check to make sure it is fixed.”
NHTSA complaint #735826, filed 2000-11“While applying the brakes there was a loud thumping noise due to a loose axle shaft that was attached to the braking system. The axles were mis-built with drum guide boss that were too shallow. Jeep had a TSB that described the problem. This allowed the entire brake assembly to move about freely and caused a thump noise. A mechanic advised the consumer that if not corrected, the brakes may lock up without warning. Jeep refused to cover the replacement costs.”
