“I purchased a certified pre-owned 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee from lansdale chrysler Jeep in october of 2002. Within 1 week, the ABS light came on and I took it back to the dealer. They explained to me that the ABS unit had failed and would have to be replaced at a cost of over $1,000 dollars. I submitted a hand written complaint to them that the car was certified and nothing should fail within a week. The ABS was replaced without charge to me. Three years later the ABS unit has failed again! Estimate charge for repair is $1,200 dollars. …”

“1997 Jeep cherokee, which was part of gas tank recall in 1998 for failure of float in the gas tank, ran out of gas again on freeway, without any notice. Appears that the lifespan of the float replacement could now be over.”

NHTSA complaint #10051061, filed 2003-12, 102,150 miles

“When the gas tank was 1/4 full and computed miles read more then 50 miles left, we ran out of gas. The car stopped working and completely shut off due to running out of gas.”

NHTSA complaint #10023638, filed 2003-06, 124,800 miles

“I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the paint is just popping off the top as well as some spots on the hood. Also the bumpers and other trim on the vehicle has this white chalky residue on it and nothing will make it go away. Is there any recalls for this type damage or will you file this complaint so there will be a recall. I also had to have the AC evaporator replaced at my expense. Where do I go to get my reimbursement since I now know this was a recall?”

NHTSA complaint #10045571, filed 2003-11

“I contacted the dealer for the evaporator/condenser problem on the air conditioner on the vehicle- the customer service rep. At chrysler told me that the mileage was too high and there is nothing he can do for me- but he immediately tried to sell me a new vehicle at a special price . This is the 3rd time that Jeep/ daimer chrysler has failed to cover anything under the recall conditions. The first time was a brake problem that I clearly stated was a mfg. Defect- they insisted that it was my driving habits, paid out of pocket for the repair. …”
