“Without any warning, while driving on a highway at approximately 65 MPH, the car suddenly stalled. Thankfully, on both occasions, I was able to avoid an accident and pull over to the side of the road. Coincidentally, I also own a 2018 Mazda CX-5 and in october of 2019, I received a recall notice (3719f, NHTSA #19v-497) for the 2018 car. The description in the recall sounds like the exact issue I have faced with my 2017 Mazda yet there is no recall as of now on my 2017.”

NHTSA complaint #11388676, filed 2021-01, 60,000 miles

“While driving southbound on I-75 north of north ft. Meyers, fl the vehicle stuttered slightly and stalled, with just enough time to pull to the right shoulder and park. It would not restart and appeared to be out of fuel, though the gauge indicated approx. 1/4 full. The Mazda emergency road service number was called and they dispatched a service vehicle. At the same time the mechanic arrived, a fl road ranger also arrived and put one gallon of gas in the vehicle. We were able to restart the vehicle then and drive to the next exit where we put in just 10 gallons to fill the tank completely. …”

“My car started to smell like gas. I brought it to a shop and there was a leak in my high pressure pump in which the gas was leaking on to my engine. I paid $1600 to have this replaced and there is only 88,000 miles on the car.”

NHTSA complaint #11769737, filed 2026-10

“My 2017 Mazda CX-5 has experienced a recurring condition more than six times involving sudden jerking, rapid deceleration, and loss of normal accelerator response during extended highway driving, often while cruise control is engaged. On multiple occasions the engine has also shut down. On 09/11/2026, while traveling south on I-35 at approximately 80 mph with cruise control engaged, the vehicle suddenly began jerking violently and rapidly losing speed. Normal accelerator response was lost and a vehicle behind me nearly struck my vehicle. …”
