“On february 7 2003 my wife drove my 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager home just down the street and heard a bang under the floor board drivers side. The long and short of it is that our transmission had a catastrophic failure. Needless to say it cost us as much as we have paid for the vehicle since we acquired it from a very reputable car company.”
NHTSA complaint #10010366, filed 2003-03, 31,967 miles“This van has had 2 rebuilt transmisions installed. One at 74,000 & the other at 77,000 miles. I was informed when the transmission was replaced the 2nd time that this is a design flaw in the transmission area where the differential pin is located. I contacted chrysler and they will not cover any of the expense.”
NHTSA complaint #10070849, filed 2004-01, 74,000 miles“A bolt in the transmission of my 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager came loose and shot through the transmission housing exiting under the vehicle. This became known when the repair facilities took the damaged equpment apart. It was reported by the facilities that this has been a common occurrence in this vehicleand that they had repaired five in our town alone in the past two years. Resulting in over $2000 in repair costs.”
NHTSA complaint #10061827, filed 2004-03, 110,130 miles“Transmission failure for the second time! At 33,000 miles my transmission went out and the dealership repaired it'. Now at 93,000 the speedometer gear has malfunctioned and I have to replace the whole transmission. This happened while I was driving. The transmission locked in second gear, which was unexpected and surprised me. This action could have caused an accident but I was the only car on the road.”
NHTSA complaint #10045201, filed 2003-10, 93,000 miles“Driving on highway, my check engine light went on. Then van could not go faster than 35 MPH. I would hear straining on the engine and the RPM gauge would show a higher RPM rate for the low speed I was travelling. The transmission needed to be replaced.”
