“The dashboard on my 2012 chevy SILVERADO 1500 is cracked in two places. The crack next to the passenger side airbag has been there since I bought the vehicle but the crack in the middle of the dashboard just appeared from normal city street and highway driving. I am concerned it could be a problem if I am involved in an accident.”
NHTSA complaint #11414024, filed 2021-04, 155,000 miles“Went out to my truck this morning and low and behold, there was a 4 crack in the dash that was not there last night. It starts at the left front corner of the airbag and goes toward the windshield. There is a small piece of black plastic sticking out of the crack. Now I wonder if someone touches it, the air bag will inflate. Is this safe or not?”
NHTSA complaint #10884939, filed 2016-07, 56,000 miles“My dash started a small crack by the passenger airbag. It's a very common issue between 07-13 GM trucks and suvs. They seem to randomly crack I had mine crack overnight. It makes a horrible vibration sound while driving it's kind off annoying to drive now.”
NHTSA complaint #11308637, filed 2020-02, 141,500 miles“The dash is cracking and chevy shared that it cost 1500 to replace so they will allow me to pay $600 and they will pay the rest. The truck has 44600 miles I have not replace the tires or brakes yet it is parked under a tree most of the time there is no reason that this should happen.”
NHTSA complaint #10874125, filed 2016-06, 44,600 miles“The dashboard cracked right near airbag on passenger side. I do not use any type of cleaner to make it crack and I also use a visor to cover wind shield. I had this truck for a year and couple months. Every person that I speak with had same problem. And the same spot. I was literally just on my way to dad's house with a birthday cake and I heard a noise so when I got to my destination I looked and didn't notice anything so my boyfriend looked and saw the crack.”
