Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I had a flat on my mini van. While trying to lower the spare tire I found it stuck in place. The safety catch will not release and it is impossible to access the spare without compromising your personal safety by crawling under the van. If this had been my wife and had I not been at home when I found the flat this could have turned into a life threatining ordeal. Why isn't anyone address in this well known issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10870117, filed 2016-05, 135,234 miles

“After filling up the gas tank with gas, I drive away from the gas station and the van stalls. This has happened on a 2 lane divided highway in which I was almost killed! Can someone please look into this situation.”

NHTSA complaint #10691284, filed 2015-02, 105,000 miles

“I have a 2005 Chrysler Town And Country it started with my locks stopping working I disconnected it and than it worked for a couple of weeks than it would go out again. Now my ABS and traction control light came on and quit working for a week now the light went out and works I tried the battery thing again but did not work. I'm afraid the computer may stop working when diving. I only have 48,000 miles on it.”

NHTSA complaint #10312476, filed 2010-02, 30,000 miles

“Abs and traction control failure. At 37,000 miles my ABS and traction control lights came on. I took it to the dealer and they would not do anything because it was out of warranty. I called Chrysler and they told me the same thing. Also my service engine soon light came on and was told it is my EGR valve. My brakes failed and hit my mustang with the van. Still they would do nothing about it.”

NHTSA complaint #10266732, filed 2009-04, 37,000 miles

“Driving my car home I pulled over in a turn out to move something in the rear compartment that was making noise. That took approx. 30-45 seconds until I was back in the drivers seat. I smelled what I thought to be a forest fire. It smelled like wood or trash burning, not a vehicle smell of oil, gas, rubber burning etc. I then saw smoke coming up through the carpet and floor mat of my front passenger floorboard. This didn't make sense to me, so I quickly looked at the instrument panel which had no indication of engine trouble or overheating. …”
