“I have power steering noise on my t&c 2005 Chrysler van. It used to come initially on cold start and later it is common even on hot days and the noise is contentious when ever I turn the wheel. It looks it is manufacture issue and never recalled from Chrysler as I see lot of complaints on different online forums.”

NHTSA complaint #10631727, filed 2014-09, 55,000 miles

“I had just started the van to start to exit a parking lot. I was traveling about 5 MPH. As I rounded a corner to the exit, the van's engine just shut off. I couldn't steer and the brakes didn't work. I had to coast until the van stopped to the gear in park and attempt a restart. After I was at a complete standstill I was able to change the gear to park and restart the van. After that it didn't stall at all on the ride home.”

NHTSA complaint #10511024, filed 2013-05, 91,000 miles

“Lost my power steering at 70mph on i75, traveling from ohio to michigan, christmas, with my family in the car. The wheel on the rt had some wobble in it, but I was able to get the vehicle stopped with very little steering left. Steering fluid all over under the vehicle. I looked it up on line, and found that this is a notorious problem with the 2005 Chrysler Town And Country, with a $1300+ repair bill. Have there been crashes because of this? Is there a recall on this? Why not? We were very lucky this time.....”

NHTSA complaint #11163393, filed 2018-12, 179,000 miles

“I have a Chrysler town & country van 2005. I heard a sound when driving the car. I took it to the mechanics and I was told that the rack & pinion needed to be replace. $550 dollars. After doing some research on line noticed thousands of complaints about the same. Please help!! The rack & pinion is broken and needs replacement. $550 dollars.”

NHTSA complaint #10217525, filed 2008-02, 89,000 miles

“My 2005 town & country van began making a humming noise when the steering wheel was moved. I was told that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. This vehicle only has 52,000 miles. I have been told by numerous people that this should not happen in a vehicle with such low mileage.”
