“Spark plug blew out of motor I am the original owner of my truck. I have always had the Ford dealership perform the tune-ups because I am aware of the ongoing problems with the Ford 5.4 engine and spark plugs. I had my daughter in the truck with me at the time of the spark plug coming out and catching on fire. This is completely un-acceptable, Ford motor company obviously knows about the problem. But nothing has been done to correct the problem. I am extremely upset about the dangerous situation this put me and my family in. …”
NHTSA complaint #10629506, filed 2014-08, 195,215 miles“The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-250 SD. While driving approximately 55 MPH, a loud noise was heard under the hood. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the spark plug thread in the engine head failed and caused the spark plug to separate from the engine. The contact indicated that the failure occurred on three separate occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.”
