“I parked my car in the garage and tried opening the driver side door. But the handle and lock would not work. So I have to roll down the window and open the door from the outside. Also the driver door will not lock. This is a very serious security issue. I was told that it was not covered under warranty but I didn't do anything to cause this. It is just very cheap parts and poorly designed.”
NHTSA complaint #10563520, filed 2014-02, 70,000 miles“I had stopped at a convenience store and when I tried to open the door the door handle wouldn't unlock. I had to climb out through the passenger side. I could open the door from the outside. This is the 2nd time the handle has broken. The first time was within the 1st year I purchased the car. I have taken it to the dealer to look at. Seems this is a recurring problem with this car.”
NHTSA complaint #10503557, filed 2013-03, 74,800 miles“Both front and rear interior door handles have failed. I am unable to exit the vehicle without lowering the window and opening from exterior. There is no visible evidence they have failed, they have just stopped working. You can convince the rear to work if you pull the handle and lock the same time. If I were to be involved in an accident, and the power failed, I would be unable to exit the vehicle at all. This vehicle is 3 years old with 47,000 miles and is now a potential death trap. The dealer says it is not covered, and I would have to pay for repairs. …”
NHTSA complaint #10452157, filed 2012-03, 47,000 miles“The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the front driver's side door became inoperable. The contact stated that the front driver's door failed to open. The contact stated that the door latch could be locked and unlocked; however, the front driver's door could not be opened. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11558640, filed 2023-12, 100,000 miles“The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the door will not open or close properly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the door latch was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages). It was unknown if the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,200.”
