“The 2007 Jeep Wrangler stalled, lost power brakes, lost power steering. Tried to restart the vehicle and would not turn over. We noticed flames shooting up outside the passenger side of the vehicle. All 4 of us climbed out the driver side door. I tried to open the hood and flames came bursting out. Within 2 minutes the whole vehicle engulfed in flames. The flames were coming from underneath the engine. It took the fire department nearly 2 hours to extinguish the flames. The vehicle was a total loss.”

NHTSA complaint #10453408, filed 2012-03, 94,000 miles

“My vehicle spills fuel out of the filler area every time I fill up. The fuel gets on me, the vehicle, and the ground. I have contacted chrysler about the matter, and they advise me because I am outside the time frame for their TSB, any repairs would have to be paid by me. After thoroughly researching the matter, it seems this is a wide spread concern. Chrysler has addressed the issue for some, but not others because we're outside the window . Please see your code #pe10032. Also, my vehicle consumes or burns oil at the rate of one quart per 1000 miles. …”

NHTSA complaint #10391908, filed 2011-03, 59,900 miles

“As driving on highway engine started to make clicking noise, called local Jeep dealership and brought into shop no engine lights or oil lights on, service person told me that oil was 5 quarts low in a 6 quart engine and the engine bearings were stripped need new engine and life time powertrain warranty will not cover engine. When I ask service person why this happen he could not and would not give straight answer simple said aftermarket oil filter, and I found no leaks then asked if it was the oil filter he said no I'm not telling you it was the oil filter! …”

NHTSA complaint #10441786, filed 2011-12, 56,842 miles

“Driving my 2007 Jeep Wrangler about 55 MPH when the engine stalled and the dash lights lit up, 5 seconds later it restarted and the dash warning lights went off as normal. Called the local service dept. And an appointment was made but was told it would be like finding a needle in a haystack .”

NHTSA complaint #10223301, filed 2008-04, 10,000 miles

“My issue is the large amount of oil used, 1 qt used per 2500 miles. This is what the dealership and Jeep told me. Normal oil consumption: below are industry standards for normal engine oil consumption: mileage below 50,000: normal oil consumption is one quart for each 1,000 miles driven. Mileage above 50,000: normal oil consumption is one quart for each 750 miles driven. So, as long as a Jeep with 50000 or more miles on it does not use more than a quart of oil every 750 miles they do not care, and they will not fix it. I was also told that why new jeeps take 6 qt's since they use so much oil. …”
