NHTSA complaint #10244039, filed 2008-09, 53,000 miles“I was driving the vehicle in residential area, it sounded like metal was grinding the vehicle filled with smoke, and .completely shut off. I had to have vehicle towed to the dealer as it was unable to function. As soon as the mechanic turned on the car he stated it was the transfer case. From my research the transfer case is connected to the transmission as well as the front and rear axles by means of drive shaft.this is a definite safety issue, if I was driving on a highway and this happened and the vehicle stalled I would have been in a terrible car crash. …”

Shortly after, the service engine soon light came on and I had the code verified at advance auto. Catalytic system failure on one of the banks.
