“While driving in the rain at approximately 35 MPH hydroplaned on an highway exit ramp that was a sharp loop/curve. The car hit head on the end of the guardrail which had a square plate. The entire front end and hood of the Camry was smashed and the air bags never deployed. I was wearing my seat belt which somewhat restrained me but hit my head on the steering wheel and suffered a concussion.”
NHTSA complaint #10639363, filed 2014-09, 76,000 miles“My car has excessive oil consumption. I had to put a quart of oil in after driving 150 miles! Also one of the seat belts in the back does not have any give, its tight, snaps back too quickly.”
NHTSA complaint #11051120, filed 2017-11, 236,000 miles“A couple of months ago when I tried to raise the shoulder height of the driver side seat belt, I had to use excessive thumb pressure to push on the elliptical button to unlock the adjuster and raise it. During this process I heard something snap inside the plastic enclosure and the vertical height button cannot be depressed, hence the mechanism is locked in place and cannot be moved in either the up or down direction. Note, that the seat belt recoil and tensioner work fine. …”
NHTSA complaint #10344194, filed 2010-07, 27,400 miles“The seat belt (front driver's side) will not engage when the temperature rises inside the caar. It will engage early in the morning, but not later during the day. Toyota refused to give the name of the manufacturer for the seat belts. I have researched the problem with the Toyota Camry and there seems to be a consistant problem with these seat belts in the front especially on the driver's side. I was told to make an appointment with the dealer (which I did) and have it checked, but I do not think they are willing to accept any responsibility for the problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10520876, filed 2013-06, 73,800 miles“My 3 yr old son was in a booster seat in the middle of back seat. He was strapped in with seatbelt. When seatbelt was released, the seatbelt went behind his back. I did not notice. It was somehow wrapped around his waist like a noose. When I tried to lift him through it, I couldn't get him out. He was literally suspended several inches off the seat it was so tight. The seatbelt would not loosen. It was only getting tighter and tighter. It eventually got so tight it was cutting into his waist. I took his pants and underwear off to try make more room; to no avail. …”
