“I recently purchased a new vw Jetta tdi. From day one, the car's front suspension felt and sounded loose. At 700 miles I took the car to the dealer, who informed me that the bolts for the car's tie rods and other parts of the suspension were not tightened to specification. It is obvious that the car came from the factory like this. This could have LED to a catastrophic failure.”
NHTSA complaint #10156716, filed 2006-05, 700 miles“I leased my 2006 Jetta 2.0 in january 2006. Currently the car has stalled on me 4 times and I have had numerous failed starts. The vehicle fails to start when I use the main key and the valet key. This problem has become pretty consistent now that I have put more miles on the vehicle. I am now at 20k and its been a headache all the way. I can only be thankful that when the car stalled on me on numerous occasions that I was not in heavy traffic. The dealership says that they can not identify the problem and therefore there is nothing that can be done. …”
NHTSA complaint #10170469, filed 2006-10, 3,700 miles“Transmission lurch forward, sometimes skip the shifts, also shifts are delayed or eng rev,too high and downshifthing it kicks 2 to 1and there's a clunking noise.”
NHTSA complaint #10285748, filed 2009-09, 7,000 miles“There has been tampering done to my vehicle how do I assure safety and have it investigated and have a repair man look over the vehicle after the theft?”
NHTSA complaint #11383094, filed 2020-12“I own a 2006 vw Jetta tdi and have 30,000 miles on the vehicle. I noticed at about 25,000 miles the vehicle developed a vibration in the front end. I took it to the vw dealer and had the front end inspected for problems, but none noted. I had the wheel rotated and balanced and that did not help the problem. The tech at vw dealer noticed wear in the middle of the tire. He stated that my tires (turanza el 400-02, 205/55r16) are more than likely the cause of the vibration and there is nothing they could do except replace all the tires. …”
